English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The term EAL (English as an Additional Language) is used when referring to pupils whose main language at home is a language other than English.

At St. Mary's, we value and respect cultural diversity, recognise the positive benefits of bilingualism and believe that all children have the right to equal opportunity of access to the curriculum. The school is committed to making appropriate provision of teaching and resources for pupils for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL) and for raising the achievement of minority ethnic pupils who are at risk from under-achievement.

If you require any information about EAL, please contact Miss Davis (Assistant Head & Inclusion).
