History is a foundation subject in the National Curriculum. At St.Mary's this subject will be taught each term in conjunction with other curriculum areas focusing on a specific historical topic or period of time. Through an enquiry-based curriculum, children will develop their historical knowledge and understanding, which will be driven by a progression of skills-based outcomes. Throughout the years children build upon their knowledge of historical events from talking/interviewing people about their own experiences, looking at photographs, maps and artefacts as well as taking part in school visits. The children will then present their knowledge and understanding through a range of mediums such as; art, models, various writing styles, timelines and drama.
