At St Mary's inclusion means that all pupils receive the provision they need in order to access the very best, high quality education, whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, impairment, attainment and background.
Our commitment to inclusion can be seen in the school policies, in teaching and learning and in the School Development Plan, where all learners are considered and provided for within the school community as part of everyday good practice.

Special Educational Needs (SEND)
At St Mary's the special educational needs and disabilities of children are identified through observation, assessment and discussions with parents/carers/previous school records and health agencies, for example, GP, school nurse etc. Parents/carers are consulted at every stage and invited to attend meetings with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) and support services.

The Pupil Premium (PP) is an additional funding for children who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), are 'Looked After Children' (LAC) and/or children from Service families. The extra funding is intended to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and support children with parents in the regular armed forces.
Ever 6: The Pupil Premium will include pupils recorded in the school census who are known to have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) in any of the previous 6 years.

English as an additional Language
The term EAL (English as an Additional Language) is used when referring to pupils whose main language at home is a language other than English.
At St. Mary's we value and respect cultural diversity, recognise the positive benefits of bilingualism and believe that all children have the right to equal opportunity of access to the curriculum. The school is committed to making appropriate provision of teaching and resources for pupils for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL) and for raising the achievement of minority ethnic pupils who are at risk from under-achievement.
