All parents and carers with a child attending St Mary’s are automatically members of the St Mary’s Association of Parents and Teachers (SMA for short). It’s a registered charity which exists to support the work of the school.
Getting involved with the SMA is a great way to make new friends and bring our community together.
The SMA committee holds monthly meetings at the school, alternating between morning and evening sessions to accommodate as many participants as possible. All parents and carers are warmly invited to attend; participation is not limited to committee members. Meeting dates and times are communicated in advance through ParentMail. To keep everyone informed and connected, the SMA circulates meeting agendas and minutes via the class reps and/or ParentMail.
Fundraising is a key focus for us, with all proceeds going toward purchasing resources for the school that fall outside its regular budget. Additionally, we enjoy organising a variety of social events, ranging from family gatherings and activities for children to adult-only nights out.
A typical year features a variety of events, including bingo nights, quiz nights, sporting activities, Easter Egg Hunts, Pumpkin Parties, and our annual Christmas and Summer Fairs, along with much more!
Got an idea for an event? We’d love to hear from you, please email eventsforsma@gmail.com with any ideas or suggestions.
The money we raise is used to fund a range of projects both big and small including in the last year; a new sound system for the school hall, new reading books across the school, refreshed play equipment for Early Years and supporting all the children to attend Wimbledon Bookfest. . After years of fundraising we have finally transformed the tired old 'garden' area into a wonderful new garden for all to enjoy. These all-important school projects wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and commitment of all parents who get involved.
