At St Mary’s, we believe every child is an artist with their own unique voice. Our Art and Design curriculum celebrates individuality, nurturing imagination and curiosity while developing skills through five key strands: generating ideas and using sketchbooks, making, formal elements, knowledge of artists, and evaluating and analysing. Children explore a wide range of techniques, from sketching and painting to clay and digital tools, growing technically while expressing their own style and ideas.
We celebrate diversity, ensuring each child’s background and experiences are reflected in their work. Children build confidence and learn to communicate ideas through their creations, both individually and collaboratively. Group projects allow them to share ideas, solve problems together and create something truly special.
Art at St Mary’s is more than learning techniques – it is a space to explore feelings, express ideas and gain a deeper understanding of the world. Through their work, children discover their own voice, appreciate different perspectives and develop a lifelong love of creativity.
By the time our children leave St Mary’s, our children are skilled, confident, and inspired - ready to embrace new challenges and share their creativity with the world.
